Meet the Dog Lover behind 'The Pawlor'

Hey y'all, my name is Alyssa! I was born and raised in Pennsylvania and moved to Georgia in 2016.

Animals have always been part of my life. Although my family did not have a dog for long after rehoming our first puppy, a German Shepherd named Boots, he left a lasting impression on me. I was six at the time, and my love for dogs only deepened as I grew older. I spent countless hours watching videos of working police K9s, obedience training, and families bringing home new puppies. Around age 10, I found a friend who shared that same passion. We spent our time training our neighbor’s lab, Molly, building makeshift agility courses from whatever we could find, and offering dog walking and homemade treat services around the neighborhood. Looking back, it’s clear that my interest in dogs was never a phase. It was the foundation of what was to come. Before entering the grooming world, I began working hands-on with animals in 2018 at a dog and cat boarding facility. That experience taught me how to care for pets of all temperaments, ages, and needs, and it strengthened my understanding of animal behavior, comfort, and trust in a professional setting. I bathed dogs there but was never allowed to hand-dry them or do any kind of grooming. As someone who had never owned dogs, them being groomed was still foreign to me.
I didn’t get my first dog until I moved out at 20. His name is Wesson, and he has been by my side through every stage of adulthood. When I met my husband, Josh, Wesson was still young and had only known life as an only dog. He remains a devoted companion and constant presence in our home- he is most definitely my soul dog. Constantly at my side and the biggest momma's boy.

As Josh and I built our life together, our family grew. We adopted Stark, a Rottweiler mix, followed shortly by Kilo, a husky mix, and later an orange tabby named Mango. Loss has also been part of our journey. We unexpectedly lost Mango at just one year old back in 2022, and in May of 2025, we lost Kilo as well. Those losses shaped me deeply and reinforced how central animals are to my life. Losing an animal is like losing a part of the family, a piece of your heart. We later welcomed Lyric, my German Shepherd, and after mourning Kilo, we rescued a Husky/German Shepherd mix name Ino (E-no). Today our home includes four dogs, four cats, a gecko, and a group of fish!

In 2019, I was given the opportunity to be hired and trained as a groomer by an incredible mentor. That opportunity changed everything. Grooming became more than a career, it became the place where my lifelong passion and purpose aligned. Through grooming, I not only found my calling but also met Josh. Every part of my life now feels connected to that turning point.

I am deeply grateful for the life I’ve built, the animals I care for, and the relationships that surround me. My home is where I feel most grounded, usually with a dog close by. Caring for animals has shaped who I am, and it continues to guide the way I move through the world.

The Job

My favorite aspect of grooming was and always has been being able to build relationships with our clients- both people and dogs. But, clearly I just LOVE all things animals. I officially started grooming in July of 2020, and I couldn't be more in love with my career. I strive to be the best I can be and I could sincerely talk about my love and passion for dogs with you for hours (I'll spare you the time). I love each and every dog that crosses my path like my very own, and I always wish I could spend more than a couple hours with them. My biggest successes are earning the love and trust of someone else's animals.. its the best feeling in the world.

Why?

When I decided to open a one on one grooming business, my goal was simple: to give each dog my full attention and the level of care they truly deserve. I want every grooming session to be tailored to your dog: their individual coat needs, their personality, and your preferences. This allows me to focus on quality, not rushing through appointments or juggling multiple dogs at once. I am, first and foremost, a huge dog lover. Call it an obsession, a passion, whatever you want. I genuinely love dogs. Working one on one gives me the chance to build real relationships, not just with your dog, but with you as well. Taking the time to truly know each dog helps build trust, comfort, and communication, which makes the entire grooming experience better for everyoneThis isn’t just about getting your dog groomed and sending them home. It’s about creating a calm, positive experience where your dog feels safe and cared for. I want you to feel confident knowing your dog is in good hands and being treated like one of my own. Choosing to run a one on one grooming business is very intentional. In a world where speed and volume are often prioritized, I’ve chosen a different path. I’m not focused on how many dogs I can groom in a day or racing against the clock. I’m focused on doing things the right way. I know your dog is clean, comfortable, and well cared for because I handle every step myself.

Grooming, to me, is more than just a service. It’s something I take pride in and truly enjoy. Working one on one allows me to put my full heart, skill, and attention into every groom, and that makes this work incredibly fulfilling for me. My goal is for you to feel the difference the moment you walk through the door. I want you to see the care, the patience, and the genuine love I have for dogs and to feel good knowing your dog is somewhere they are truly appreciated. That is what I hope to offer here, and I’m so excited to share it with you.

My Goal

I founded this business with one mission in mind: to provide dogs with the best grooming experience possible. My biggest goal in every service is to dedicate my time to ensure that your dog(s) feels comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire process I'm completing. Most grooming salons are very crowded, busy, and see multiple dogs at a time. I pride myself in being 1-1, kennel-free and I seek to find a CPR course and AKC safe grooming course in the near future. All to better help in the safety of my job, for your furkids! I also use the highest quality products and equipment to ensure that your dog looks and feels their best. Professional grade shampoo, conditioner, ear cleaner, you name it. Services include everything from basic grooming to premium baths, monthly packages, and much more. I understand that every dog has their own unique personality and needs and that's why I take the time to get to know each of my clients on a personal level and tailor my services to meet your individual needs. You can rest assured that your babies are in good hands with me!
